THE Haruki Murakami — prolific author of Norwegian WoodThe Wind-up Bird Chronicle, and Kafka on the Shore with a cult following — will make his way to Manila, if negotiations go well, according to a source from the Japan Foundation Manila.

You know you’ve been waiting for this since forever. You’ve finished the voluminous IQ84. You’ve listened to the artists he’s listed down on his novels. You’ve daydreamed about “On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning.” Maybe you’ve taken up running too, because of What I Talk About When I Talk About Running.”

Fret not, because aside from a book-signing, you might just run beside the man himself as part of a “Murakami Marathon.” Aside from being a writer, Murakami is also a runner and a marathon enthusiast. It most likely won’t be a marathon (“It’s not going to be a long-distance marathon, probably up to 5 kilometers or even less,” the source said) but you might want to run fast because the winner will get a collection of all of his books with his signature on all of them.

Again, not confirmed, but there’s a definite chance that you may not only see Haruki Murakami face to face, but also do one of his favorite activities beside him. Dreamy as it may sound, the situation sounds a bit like a Murakami novel itself when you think about it.
