Watching NSFW content? This app will play Ghandi’s speeches to stop you

Think the internet is for porn? Well, this professor from India doesn’t think so.

Say goodbye to moans of pleasure the next time you open an incognito tab, and be moved by Hindu devotional music and speeches from the likes of Ghandi through this porn blocker app instead.

Developed by Dr. Vijay Nath Mishra from Banaras Hindu University Institute of Medical Sciences, Har Har Mahadev is an app that doesn’t just block lewd content but also plays devotional music automatically when you visit a porn site.

Violent content from the internet, like the controversial Blue Whale game, will be blocked by Har Har Mahadev as well. That’s actually pretty useful.

The app’s description reads: “When Har Har Mahadev blocks a website, you’ll see a wonderful motivational message and hear some inspirational music to remind you that you should be working. The idea is to motivate you and get you back on track.”

He developed the app for six months back in 2017.  Named after the Hindu deity Shiva, the app blacklisted 3,800 porn sites in its program so far. It’s available for download in desktops and smartphone devices.

Kidding aside, it’s not the most sex positive thing out there. It might even be taking outdated ideas on celibacy to new virtual heights. Though in his defense, the app is an attempt to help porn addicts and hide NSFW popups from children.

“When I decided to develop this app, I had my children and family in mind and my patients who come in with behavioural problems. Devotional songs praising God will play if anyone tries to open a porn site. Addiction to pornography cannot be treated but this is a humble attempt at changing one’s behaviour,” Dr. Vijay says in his interview with The Indian Express.

He plans to include other devotional music from different religions as well, starting off with Islam.

While it protects children and can save people from NSFW content popping out of nowhere, it’s hard to deny the app’s outdated take on sex.

Still, it’s hella weird hearing Ghandi out of nowhere when trying to pull the padge. What does the app think about the eggplant + squirt emojis, though?
