#InMyFeelings challenge may be fun, but it comes with a price

Yesterday (Jul 31), The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned that everyone who tries the #InMyFeelings dance challenge under certain circumstances can be fined.

In case you have been living under a rock, the #InMyFeelings challenge requires people to get out of their cars on a busy road and dance to the famous Drake song.

In an interview with Inquirer.NET, MMDA Commander for Task Force Special Operations Commander Bong Nebrija said “We have the anti-distracted driving law and we also have reckless driving as part of our violations, and taking the challenge itself will fall under those violations.” Everyone who will be caught be the MMDA, therefore, would have to pay the fine of P2,500.

Last Monday, DOTr also issued a statement about the challenge that’s been taking the internet by storm. They advise challenge-takers to assure safety before having fun, “Anong mas patok sayo? Yung makiuso o ang kaligtasan mo?” (What’s more important for you? Joining the hype or your safety?)

Be careful if you’re planning to take the video of a friend too. According to MMDA’s Nebrija, citizens found violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act or Republic Act 10913 would have to pay P5,000 for the first offense, P10,000 for the second offense, and P15,000 for the third offense.

Both DOTr and MMDA, however, are not saying the #InMyFeelings challenge is illegal. They just don’t want to compromise the safety of anyone in the road–inside vehicles and pedestrians alike.
