All-red sneakers come and go, despite sneaker purists throwing hefty amounts of shade in their direction. Why? Because they keep on selling—despite countless iterations that are not necessarily good, but due to its naturally arresting concept, manages to solicit attention and hype.
However, when sneaker brands do it tastefully, an all-red shoe can certainly transform one’s perception of a sneaker dramatically. One such exception is the ASICS Gel Kayano x Packer Shoes “Triple Red,” which features a lush suede build, embossed tonal branding, and synthetic caging. The first thing that came to mind upon seeing it was that it really, really looks like a red velvet cupcake—and as silly as that sounds, it’s actually a pretty good look for the shoe. While the Gel Kayano usually exists as one of the more underrated members of the ASICS family, its adoption of a Triple Red colorway will only help it come out of its shell.
The show is a result of the marriage of two poignant shoe legacies. The Gel Kayano, now 18 years old, first came into the market as a shoe for serious runners, and has occupied that trusted role ever since. Packer Shoes is a shoe store that traces its history all the way back to 1907, making its mark in the shoe game two years ago in well-regarded collaborations with big shoe brands Adidas, New Balance, ASICS, Reebok, and FILA.
Just recently, kicks store SneakPeek, through its heavily-anticipated shoe launch series SneakPeek Unlocked, unveiled the Triple Red, last May 21 at the SneakPeak store in Shangri-La Plaza Mall, where it will be available along with its other branches in Bluebay Walk, Eastwood Citywalk, Ayala Center Cebu, Ronac Art Center, Marquee Mall, and Solenad 3, Nuvali.
