How superior is choco butternut? These snacks should tell you

Ah, choco butternut—everyone’s top of mind merienda idea, subject of countless Facebook debates, shameless friendship breaker. It’s predictable but comfortably familiar, intense but completely satisfying. Don’t you dare hate it because the internet will turn you into the world’s biggest antagonist. Ugh, the influence.

To make peace, choco butternut apologists try to lure the other side by serving different versions of this controversial favorite.  Here are a couple of revamped snacks that even the classic flavor’s nonbelievers might not resist.

Crinkles

If you’re craving choco butternut but want a more bite-sized treat, Caloocan-based shop Sistreats has you covered (in soft, sugary bits.)  The shop’s Choco Butternut crinkles’ outer covering looks like a gleaming blanket of orange, while the inside is as chocolate as it can get. (Hint: They also have espresso dark chocolate cookies, in case you need  more chocolate goodies added to your order.)

Cake

Pandemic birthdays have compelled us to stay indoors, but a cake always saves the day. If you’re racking your brain for ideas, Cielle’s Whisk specialty might help. Its Choco Butternut Overload Cake lives up to its name and is all about orange butternut crumbs gathered around the rich moist cake.

Ice cream

In case you missed it, we’re sharing the same space in this lifetime with choco butternut in ice cream form. The Lost Bread has recently blessed our TLs with its Coco Butternut ice cream. Think rich chocolate ice cream topped with donut chunks and signature coconut sugar coating in a jar. It’s available until Nov. 30, so better score one before you regret it. (Don’t worry, this also comes in a pint or tub.)

Cream puffs

Here’s a good starter pack for choco butternut neutrals: cream puffs, cream puffs and cream puffs. Made of chocolate choux (a delicate pastry dough), butternut streusel (crumbly topping of flour, butter and sugar), FETA’s Choco Butternut Cream puffs truly are for the hella sweet tooth. Surprise, surprise: It has a wealthy chocolate filling to boot.

Brownies

Any gastronomic feast isn’t done without a thick, gooey finish. Reach lvl. 57 in the brownie game with Cebu-based shop BROUNĒ’s delectable offering: choco butternut brownies, which are best paired with milk, dalgona coffee and even a hefty dose of ganache. Now you know what to have for midnight snackin’.
