It’s true, Marvel nerds. We’re all living in the simulation known as the Spider-Man pointing meme. Your old “Spider” faves are now returning– in crossover “Avengers” style.
After reports of Alfred Molina’s return as the eight-tentacled villain Dr. Octopus, more casting news has popped up courtesy of Collider. According to the site, we can expect an even more star-studded closing credits in the upcoming “Spider-Man 3,” as Disney and Marvel have reportedly added actors from previous adaptations. This includes 2012 Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, 2002 Spider-Man Tobey Maguire (if Sony and Marvel can finally close their deal) as well as female leads Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson) and, pregnancy permitting, Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy).
Of course, we can’t forget current Spider-Man Tom Holland, who will be joined once again by Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei for the third movie. Just like its animated counterpart “Into the Spider-Verse,” Disney’s “Spider-Man 3” will deal with the multiverse concept, which means Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange may have a prominent role in this one, too.
Another expected character to join the multiverse is Jamie Foxx’s Electro, who played the electrifying villain in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Jon Watts will return to direct the newest film, which is slated for release on Dec. 17, 2021. You know what that means—we’ve got a year left of crazy theories, y’all.
