Lana Condor struggles with adulting in ‘Rilakkuma and Kaoru’

Adulting problems, who’s got them? We got them too. Maybe that’s why this new Netflix animation is making us a soft mess.

Rilakkuma and Kaoru is a slice-of-life series about a young hard working woman named Kaoru, who struggles with bad luck while navigating through adulthood. She lives with her chill (maybe lazy) stuffed toy roommates Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, and Kiroitori. As adulting anxieties consume her, her roommates remind her to take a breather, may it be through barbecue or a much-needed walk in a park.

“For those who work hard to get by every day, this is the story of those happy, bittersweet, and colorful 12 months that they spent together,” the narrator says in the trailer. Happy? Bittersweet? Yup, this show will get too real and too cute real quick. Just look at this scene where she’s at the park, drinking several cans of beer. This is all of us on a bad work day.

Voiced by To All The Boys’  Lana Condor, this Netflix stop-motion series will make us feel all the feels, with its relatable take on growing up and how to deal with it. Who knows? Maybe cute stuff toys have the answers that we don’t have all along.

Watch the trailer below. Rilakkuma and Kaoru will stream on April 19.
