Dark humor shaking: ‘Patay na si Hesus’ is OTW to Netflix

Dark humor? Check. Diverse casting? Check.

If you haven’t had the chance to watch Patay na Si Hesus” by Cebuano filmmaker Victor Villanueva, now you can. Well, just a couple of days more.

Winning the Audience Choice and Gender Sensitivity awards from the QCinema International Film Festival in 2016 and the Jury’s Choice award back in the 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP), the film will finally premiere on Netflix Philippines this Dec. 20. A treat for folks looking for niche narratives out there aside from the usual niceties and well wishing of the pre-holiday szn.

The film stars Jaclyn Jose as a hardworking mother to three children: Chai Fonacier plays the serious, boyish Jude, Melde Montañez as the funny Jay, and Vincent Viado as the youngest brother. Upon learning about the death of estranged husband and father Hesus in the province, the family embarks on an eventful journey in a van.

Self-deprecating humor meets the absurd, “Patay na si Hesus” delivers the simple meaning of death and life on reel, away from the predominant eat-pray-love syndrome of happy lives onscreen. Tag yourselves: I’m definitely a bit of Chai and Linda amid the bustle of life, but see for yourself who you identify with.
