SHARE

It’s officially December. Christmas trees and colorful twinkling lights are practically everywhere, and of course, let’s not forget Jose Mari Chan’s killer holiday tracks playing in almost every mall in the city. While most of us look forward to this festive season, considering all the reunions, exchange gifts, and the good food, sometimes, everything can get too overwhelming and all you want to do is relax. I mean, let’s not forget fact that your nosy titas will be interrogating you again come Christmas on why you’re still single.

Instead of worrying about the coming reunions, take a break from all the holiday shopping and treat yourself to a movie marathon. Don’t want the basic, feel-good Christmas films? Go ahead and switch things up by watching scary Christmas movies featuring killer Santas, mischievous skeletons, a half-goat demon, and whatnot. Here are our top picks:

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This one’ll get you nostalgic about your childhood. An old favorite for all 90s kids, Nightmare follows the Pumpkin King Jack Skellington as gets bored of his usual routine of scaring people in the real world. He accidentally finds himself in Christmastown, where the festive sights will make him want to take over the city. He then kidnaps Santa Claus and tries to make Christmas his own.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

This classic slasher film is about Billy, a man suffering from PTSD after witnessing the murder of his parents as a child. After being released from an abusive orphanage, he suffers a psychological breakdown triggered by the Christmas festivities. This results to him going on a killing spree, all while donned in a Santa suit. Sounds horrifying? It is.

Krampus (2015)

Based on the old European folk tale about krampus, a horned half-goat monster who punishes naughty children, this movie will definitely make you rethink all the bad things you were guilty of this year. Krampus revolves around the dysfunctional Engel family, who finds themselves target of the monster’s wrath after a heated argument.

Black Christmas (1974)

Black Christmas is about a group of sorority girls who find themselves the targets of a serial killer. It begins after they receive weird phone calls from an unknown caller, whom they brushed off as a simple prankster. When one of the girls goes missing, and another local girl gets murdered, they begin to realize that the possibility of a serial killer on the loose is no prank at all.

A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

Save this melting pot of Christmas horrors as the best (and craziest) for last. The anthology film features a series of interconnected stories which are all witnessed by a radio DJ named Dangerous Dan. It features a ghost of a pregnant teenager, a changeling, Krampus, and zombie elves.
