While we’re waiting for the miniseries adaptation of Junji Ito’s “Uzumaki,” we have another heart-pounding (but for an entirely different reason) show to add to our lineup. In the whack of a year that is 2020, can our eyes endure more dystopia?
Geek Tyrant reports that sci-fi disaster anime “Japan Sinks: 2020” is coming to Netflix. This follows an ordinary family whose life is changed after a sudden earthquake—and not “just another earthquake,” as said in the trailer. With an eerie preview of getting trapped in the middle of a catastrophe, it reveals the nerve-wracking image of losing loved ones in a sinking archipelago, all while trying to survive.
This upcoming show is based on the 1973 disaster novel “Japan Sinks” by Sakyo Komatsu. For a story written in the ’70s, it sure is disturbing how closely it reflects the current year’s crazy-ass vibe. Set your next Netflix party: “Japan Sinks: 2020” comes out on Jul. 9.
