So you’ve gone past the point of no return and bleached your hair blonde. Congratulations! The scary part’s over. Now, it’s time for the challenging part: How to take care of your light locks.
You see, it isn’t all fun and games once you’ve gone all Daenerys Targaryen. Bleach opens up your hair strands and dissolves your hair’s natural pigment, which then results in lighter hair. Unfortunately, it also results to porous and brittle strands. This means a ton of split ends and dull, weak locks. Definitely not the state of hair that’s fit for a dragon-riding queen.
But having luscious bleach blonde hair isn’t impossible—you just need to amp up the TLC. Feel intimidated? Don’t be. We’re here to help you reach your (literal) blonde ambitions.
Be gentle with wet bleached hair
Remember your virgin hair days when you could rake a brush through your hair as soon as you step out of the shower? Well, it’s time to leave that in the past. Bleached hair is as weak (and probably as yellow) as spaghetti noodles when it’s wet. You don’t want your crowning glory to be snapping off in your comb, do you? So, let your hair air dry before you comb through it.
Go easy on the hot styling tools
When we said air dry, we really meant air dry—no blow dryers here! Heat is already damaging as it is, but when you put it on already weak hair, you’re cooking up a recipe for disaster. Being a bleach blonde requires a lot of patience, which you’ll learn from multiple bleaching sessions down to the day-to-day maintenance. Look at that: You not only have cool hair, but you learned a valuable life lesson, too.
Shampooing should be optional
Traditional shampoos, that is. When you have bleached hair, dry shampoo is your friend. The thing is, lathering your brittle hair with water and a bubbly shampoo strips away the hella important oils your scalp naturally produce. Bleached hair is usually always dehydrated to death; you don’t want to strip off its last layer of moisturizing defense, do you?
Stay away from chlorine
Sorry pool babies, you’ll have to be relegated to a poolside dweller now. Chlorine reacts with the bleach chemicals in your hair and as a result can lead to a mucky green hue after a dip in chlorinated pools.
Keratin-based hair wraps are your best friend
Cutting back on harmful habits will do wonders for your bleached hair, but it’ll still need help to reach its shiny, voluminous potential again. Don’t forget to give your hair a regular boost with a keratin-based hair repair product. Why keratin, you ask? Keratin is one of the elements your hair loses during the bleaching process. A keratin-based mask or crème will help recreate the barrier that bleach breaks down.
The best part about this is you don’t have to do it every day. A weekly hair pampering session is more than enough to restore your blonde hair to its healthy pre-bleached glory. We particularly love the Cream Silk Triple Keratin Rescue Ultra Treatments, which are loaded with keratin essence, serum, and relaxers specifically made to combat damage.
If you need a pampering session, use the Ultra Treatment wraps for 20 minutes while you watch Netflix or read a book. If you’re in a rush, use the crème version after your regular shampoo and conditioner. Just leave it on for three minutes, and voila! Hair maintenance done. Whether it’s 3 or 20 minutes, we’re pretty sure you’ll have time for it. Plus, the Reign & Rejuvenate products are boosted with essential oils and additional natural extracts that your chemically treated hair needs. No excuses now, friend!
At the end of the day, it’s all about your perspective on your new tasks as a blondie. You can either think of it as a burden or turn it into a fun treat. Just take Cream Silk’s Ultimate #TreatDay for instance. The attendees stayed in their extra special Cream Silk Suites to be able to get in some much-needed health and wellness activities.
