An asteroid might kill us all this 2022 (among other things)

This 2022, it’s not your acads or your backpain that will kill you—it’s an asteroid ending humanity once and for all. Or at least, that’s what scientists in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have estimated.

NASA’s new study tells us that an asteroid around the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza will wipe us off the Earth on May 6, 2022. Think of every dark, brooding dystopian film you’ve watched over the past decades. “Adventure Time’s” Land of Ooo is an appropriate point of reference too.

This asteroid is called the JF1, also known as the “city killer.” If this heavenly body with a serial killer’s name is to hit Earth, its impact is equivalent to 230 kilotons of TNT. According to Inquirer, that is 15 times stronger than the atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima during World War II. Meaning: It will destroy the city instantly with 15 kilotons of force.

We can sort of calm down a bit. If this hits the Earth, it will be around the remote part of the Pacific Ocean. But its impact will be strong enough to cause tsunamis all over, and of course, nuclear winter.

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) continues to monitor this space rock. They started after they discovered around 2009. As for any exit plans and precautions, there is no word yet from the institution.

Maybe this is what we deserve for killing 60% of our wildlife in the span of 44 years. Or you know, maybe God got sick of the world’s leaders disrespecting young people, panicking over our environment’s current state.

This asteroid can go either way: a 2012 apocalypse scare or “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” coming to life. Jokes aside—let’s brace ourselves for whatever will happen.
