Changing The Game At This Year’s Scout Creative Talks

At the Scout Creative Talks last October 14, six game changers in their respective industries stood on the stage in the Power Mac Center Spotlight to not only offer a glimpse into their careers, but also shared how they got there. The day was spent with a healthy mix of personal stories, solid advice, and insightful dialogue that made this year’s Creative Talks an intimate session of learning.

One recurring theme in this year’s Scout Creative Talks was about changing the game—of finding and building your identity in and despite the turbulence of the creative industry, and the potential of this generation’s youth to make waves.  Whether it was about being keen on the latest trends, hustling hard, and slowly finding your own voice, attendees found comfort that there is room for new talents as the creative industry is continuously expanding.

The event kicked off with Vania Romoff, who talked about her struggles at the start of her fashion design career in Manila, and shared the finer details in keeping up with the pace of the fashion industry. The next speaker was Erwin Romulo, who shared interesting moments in his career as an editor so far, and gave five tips on how to tell a story and tell it well: “Lesson Four: Be yourself, but make sure you’re not like everyone else.” Soleil Ignacio followed by talking about how to find your identity as an artist, urging the audience to not chase trends.

Over the lunch break, the next set of speakers came on stage, beginning with Michael Concepcion, the man behind sneaker store Commonwealth. Concepcion talked about his humble entrepreneurial beginnings and talked about the merit in failure: “You’re gonna fail eventually. Learn from it.” Quark Henares followed by talking about the state of the local film industry and giving advice to future filmmakers. The talk was rounded out by performing artist Daniel Darwin, who talked about making a name for yourself in your chosen creative industry. The floor was again open to members of the audience to ask questions.

After each speaker finished, a short period was allotted for a question and answer portion with the audience. As the talk concluded, speakers interacted with the audience who wanted to take photos or ask more questions. It was a very intimate event, and attendees left the venue with newfound insight.
