Pickup lines are still a thing for AI (blame this scientist)

Pickup lines are still a thing for AI (blame this scientist)

TBH, I can’t remember the last time I read the term “pickup line.” It was probably back in college, which doesn’t really count, ‘cause it was mentioned ironically. I mean… we’ve unanimously agreed to let it wither and die in 2012, right?

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), a scientist thought pickup lines should be a thing again. For AI (artificial intelligence), at least. According to Dazed,  writer and researcher Janelle Shane generated some “sexy” conversation lines thanks to four AI neural nets.

Vice reports that she used the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) language model to produce human-like text. She then fed it 2021’s top pickup lines. (Wow, we didn’t know that existed.)

Shane started with the DaVinci—a.k.a. the largest and most competent— variant. One of the results? “You have the most beautiful fangs I’ve ever seen.” Yes, that’s from Bella and Edward’s wedding in “Twilight.” Another one reads from the questionable lair of @beam_me_up_softboi, “I will briefly summarize the plot of Back to the Future II for you.”

Is AI coming for the simps’ gig? Guess we’ll let the future decide.
