One of our favorite art galleries Vinyl on Vinyl said goodbye to their old home and found a new one within Makati’s La Fuerza last Tuesday, July 18. Now nestled amongst art spaces like Warehouse Eight, Finale Art File and Nova Gallery alike, the gallery celebrated its opening alongside Archivo 1984 gallery with four exhibitions in one night:

Since the death of painting everyone has been fucking the corpse by Manuel Ocampo, Jason Oliveria, Carlo Picafort, and Gerardo Tan,

Art Appreciation by Mike Crisostomo,

Audible Trouble by Chill, Gene Paul Martin, and JJ Zamoranos, and

Transitions  by Joseph Tecson.

Apart from the free-flowing booze, popcorn and the kitschy shawarma stand on the side, the now seven-year-old toy store turned gallery put on a show with performances from bands The Sleepyheads, Identikit and Joee and I. And experiencing everything at the root of it all is 22-year-old gallery assistant Paige Espiritu.

Congrats on the opening! How does it feel?

Thank you! It feels so great. This move has been a long time coming so I’m glad that we finally made it and that our opening night is a huge success!

Any reason why the move to La Fuerza?

We wanted to have a commune of galleries and to celebrate the diversity of the aesthetics of the different galleries within the compound. And well, we wanted VoV to be at the center of that, especially with it being the haven for street art, pop art and illustration.

How are you liking the new space?

I like it. It’s more spacious than our last space, and also fits more of our brand—as it was constructed to do so. This is actually our third move since our first days as a vinyl slash toy store in The Collective, and I’m happy that we’re constantly growing and getting bigger.

So what’s new with VoV now?

Well, aside from the new space of course, we welcomed fresh additions to the team: Bianca and Marian. They’re our new gallery assistants. And, we also now have a studio called the Vinyl on Vinyl Studio; it’s a new project of ours, which caters to outside projects and collaborations, separate to the gallery. So far we’ve collaborated with SM North EDSA and ASEANA to put up more art around the Metro, as well as set up art workshops. We hope to do more soon. Like I said, it’s still new so I can’t say too much about it now, but stay tuned because VoV has a lot of surprises in store.

Vinyl on Vinyl is located in 2241 Pasillo 18, La Fuerza Compound 1, Chino Roces Ave., Makati. Its current four exhibitions will run on until August 5, 2017.
