Invite your friends to help clean Manila Bay up this weekend

Without a doubt, you can watch the best sunset in Manila at Manila Bay. Unfortunately, this magnificent view is overshadowed by the fact that Manila Bay is not at its best conditions—think floating garbage and murky waters. It’s not what you can say picturesque.

There have been constant programs focused on the revival of Manila Bay. Recently, the World Bank committed to subsidize a major clean-up for Manila Bay that would hopefully improve the conditions of its waters.

That’s great news, right? But hey, why should we just sit back and wait for help to come when we can actually do a little something?

“How do I help?” you ask.

Non-profit and youth-drive organization Planet CORA just announced an upcoming cleanup program happening this Saturday, Nov. 10.

Dubbed the Clean Seas Pilipinas Cleanup, the program will be held at the Freedom Island in Parañaque. The site, a few minutes drive away from the popular Manila Bay coastline, has been subject to constant cleanups. Slowly, the Freedom Island is becoming a haven for flora and fauna, especially mangroves and birds.

The mangroves of Freedom Island.? Week after week this is cleaned up, but still everyone’s trash ends up here in this protected habitat frequented by migratory birds from all over the world. There is no such thing as “away”. ? #PlanetOrPlastic . ?CALLING ON VOLUNTEERS! ? Although the cleanup drive is not directly happening at the popular Manila Bay coastline along Roxas Boulevard, the islands teeming with life around the bay are proof that its restoration, like Pasig River’s, is possible.

You can sign up for the cleanup here.
