Nancy Binay and Grace Poe are definitely us in that picture.
In a photo session with fellow Senatorial winners, Nancy Binay and Grace Poe skip the signature Duterte fist bump. We can almost hear “thank u, next” playing in the background.
The two are among the only candidates who were not backed by the president, Nancy Binay being part of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), and Grace Poe being an independent candidate. The only other non-PDP-Laban Senator is actor Lito Lapid, who also posed Duterte-style.
There’s Nancy, arms firmly at her side, smiling at the camera. Here’s Poe, her hands clasped in front of her, clad in crisp white.
The nine other newly-elected Senators are Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Pia Cayetano, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Christopher “Bong” Go, Imee Marcos, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Francis Tolentino, and Cynthia Villar, and it’s no secret that almost all are die-hard Duterte stans. Are we panicking? Maybe. Will we be keeping an eye on any shenanigans? Hell, yes.
Awkwardness aside, we think it’s cool that they didn’t just follow the lead of the majority. Now can they keep that attitude up for the next six years?
