Missing old Filipino films? You can watch them in the cinema

Just in case you’re wondering: No, we’ll never get over Bujoy and Ned in “Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang?” No one asked, but our obsession has a lot to do with their outfits.

This incomparable 1998 romcom top billed by Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin has always been one of our ride-or-die films. (Or, you know, a perpetual reco to our friends ‘cause that’s our love language.)

If that’s a hard same for you, then we’re giving you an itinerary for the weekends to come. Stay excited, because you’ll get to watch “Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang?” and more classic Filipino films in “Weekend Cinema Classics,” an initiative headed by ABS-CBN Film Restoration.

Happening on Mar. 13 to Apr. 4 at Greenbelt Cinema 1 every Friday and Saturday, this program brings back iconic Filipino flicks from previous decades—from the critically-acclaimed to the crowd favorites—right on the cinema screens. Since a time machine hasn’t been made yet, we’ll make do with this experience of (kind of) living in another era in the comfort of cinema seats.

Aside from the classic Marvin-Jolina tale of two best friends falling for the wrong people, also included in the lineup are “Kailangan Kita,” “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising,” “Sana Maulit Muli,” “Eskapo,” “Misteryo sa Tuwa,” “Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo” and “Karnal.” There’s also the following: “High School Scandal,” “Mga Bilanggong Birhen,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon,” “Tisoy!” “Omeng Santansia,” “Bulaklak sa City Jail,” and “Moral.” It’s a good mix of hair-raising thrillers and nostalgic tearjerkers—some of which even reflect today’s social issues. But we’ll let you do the rest of the commentary.

Tickets are priced at P180. Student tickets are P150. Check out the full schedule here:
