Ylona Garcia’s new track ‘Don’t Go Changing’ captures our deep-seated fears

While “All That” featured a high-energy Ylona Garcia ready to conquer what comes her way in March 2021, her newly released single “Don’t Go Changing” transports us to a heartfelt ballad gradually peeling off her vulnerable layers.

“‘Forgive and forget’ or ‘forgive but never forget’??” the Filipino-Australian singer-songwriter shared a sneak peek of her “Don’t Go Changing” music video via Instagram on Sept. 13, a day before its launch. This is her sophomore track under 88rising, and is also part of the music label’s latest compilation album “Head in the Clouds III.” For this track, she’s worked with Jonas Jeberg and Marcus Lomax, known collaborators of Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, respectively.

In the MV, Ylona walks aimlessly around her apartment—one hand on her head, the other holding a few packs of famous Filipino snacks. Mulling over what seems to be an upcoming wave of change, Ylona mixes her soulful vocal treatment and powerful belting skills (I mean, the way she sang “don’t go changing,” brought us to different places) to unveil her brand of R&B.

Torn between brawling with her fear and just accepting it, “Don’t Go Changing” ultimately feels both like a slow dance go-to and a song to scream to. The duality she offers, bestie. We can’t wait for more.
