‘Pamilya Ordinaryo,’ ‘Lola Igna’ and other indie films are coming to Netflix

If you had your fix of movies from our database, Netflix has something more in store for cinephiles—namely, five more films to add to your watch list.

After the success of its local slate including “Eerie” and “Dead Kids,” the streaming service is serving up more Filipino movies this coming June, just in time for Independence Day. Check out the recent selection below:

“Pinoy Sunday”

Release date: Jun. 5

Inspired by a 1958 Roman Polanski short, this lighthearted slice of life follows two immigrants in Taipei who embark on an adventure with the unlikeliest of items—a discarded red couch.

“Sunod”

Release date: Jun. 14

As the medical expenses of her daughter continue to rise, a mother takes on a graveyard shift at a call center, where the building’s secrets start to unravel at night.

“Lola Igna”

Release date: Jun. 18

This critically-acclaimed film centers on foul-mouthed elderly woman Lola Igna, who’s eager to get life over with. Much to her disgust, her neighbors are hung up on her world record as “the oldest living grandmother in the world.” Her long lost great-great-grandson Tim emerges back into her life, as a vlogger determined to document her life.

“Untrue”

Release date: Jun. 22

Mara moves to the country of Georgia, where she meets a man named Joaquim. Not all is right in this romance, as secrets start to be uncovered, and their story becomes one tinged with lies and deceit.

“Pamilya Ordinaryo”

Release date: Jun. 26

Young couple Jane and Aries are pickpockets making ends meet in Manila. Fate seems to take a turn when their infant son is kidnapped, causing them to take more desperate measures.
