The Sleeping Boy Collective turns sex scandal into benefit gig against abuse

By Celene Sakurako

Following their official statement about cancelling Ducktail’s gig in Manila, due to rape allegations surrounding Matthew Mondanile, the Sleeping Boy Collective (SBC) has emailed all ticket-buyers with how to get full refunds on the now benefit show for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. In replacement of the cancelled Ducktail’s gig on Oct. 31 at Mow’s, the SBC has tied up with Women’s Care Center Inc., a non-stock non-profit private anti-domestic violence institution that provides assistance for women who are survivors of gender-based abuse and violence against women, for a Halloween benefit show in partnership with Grrrl Gang Manila.

Called Get Spooky: A Halloween Bash Against Gender-Based Abuse, the SBC asks you to come in your fiercest costumes, “because if anyone has to run scared, it’s the abusers themselves.” Priced at P250 at the door, guest speakers experienced in gender-based violence, as well as bands Ourselves the Elves, Memory Drawers, TALL ICE LUNG, College Friends, GYHT, SERIES, Calix x skinxbones will all come out to show their support.

As for refunds here’s how you can get it:

Check your inboxes and reply to preferred refund A, B, or C.

If you made a payment through PayPal: SBC can refund the amount right away back to you, minus the PayPal transaction fee.

The aforementioned methods still apply, but only P250 will be refunded back to you. The other half goes straight to the WCC. You are also granted free entrance to our Halloween benefit show on the 31st.

C. SBC will store your refund in your personal SBC Ticket Fund.

If you wish to have your refund stored in a personal SBC Ticket Fund under your name and use it as payment for an upcoming SBC show, SBC can keep your payment safe until you decide to use it.
