In order to avoid quarantine loneliness, the film industry has decided to give back to its audience during this trying time. This is through uploading their work for free streaming. Our local filmmakers from Cinema One, TBA Studios and the like were the first ones to upload their work a week ago.
Now, South by South West (SXSW) is doing the same thing. It’s official: SXSW 2020 short film entries are now available online.
Film communities around the globe are suffering due to the COVID-19 crisis. In the United States, hundreds of filmmakers won’t get to see their works screen at SXSW this year. However, these films were given a digital home thanks to Oscilloscope and Mailchimp.
SXSW’s “Support the Shorts” streaming event allows audiences to view these films. This gives us a chance to see narratives, documentaries, animations, and Midnight films. We can also see Grand Jury Prize-winning films, like the documentary about a toddler who dreams about being a spy in “Just Hold On” and the intergenerational-docu on Vietnamese identity called “No Crying at the Dinner Table.”
These filmmakers saw SXSW as their shot at making industry connections and showcasing their works to a massive audience. While this pandemic momentarily took this opportunity away from these aspirants, this digital film festival is a way to come together in order to support these talented filmmakers.
Go to Mailchimp Presents and start streaming their films now.
