James Reid: celebrity, energy gap slayer, farmers and fisherfolk advocate

Aside from being a cultural icon, energy gap warrior and the founder and chairman of his own music label, James Reid has added a new item to his resume: a rep for the Department of Agriculture (DA).

He announced the news via Instagram earlier today. “LETS GROOOW ??Thank you to the Department of Agriculture and Secretary Dar for trusting me with the role of Ambassador of Food Security,” reads his latest post of him hugging a potted plant gifted by the DA.

During the launch of DA’s new Plant, Plant, Plant program, the actor and singer expressed his support for the farmers and fishers in our country. “For me, the farmers and fisherfolk are the backbone and heartbeat of our economy. So I’d like to encourage the younger generation to be more involved and support the farmers and fisherfolk,” said Reid.

DA Spokesperson Noel Reyes also wanted to let the public know that Reid is doing this out of the goodness of his heart, it seems. One would expect that an A-list celebrity would also request an A-list talent fee, but that’s not the case for Reid. “Wala po syang bayad, siya po ay nag-volunteer,” says Reyes in an online press conference.

So what’s the  job description of a Food Security ambassador? According to the DA, the ambassador’s role is to inform the public about all things food security, which also includes accessibility and affordability. They’re also tasked to raise awareness on the importance of farmers and fishermen to the country.

If this isn’t the true definition of “Palm Dreams,” we don’t know what is.
