There’s a podcast for everyone now: for the horror buffs, the happy pills, the community you could have had and, now, even for the intentionally (and willingly) deaf and blind to political atrocities.
Called “Super Evil,” this upcoming true crime pod will take you right back to the ’90s―a decade when some of us were still clueless little kids (or weren’t even born yet) and one of the biggest local murder cases shocked the nation.
For its first season, “Hatched in Hell,” seven episodes will be dedicated to an in-depth look at the rape and murder of students Eileen Sarmanta and Allan Gomez back in 1993. The case was brought back to the public eye last year when news broke out that former Bureau of Corrections chief Nicanor Faeldon ordered the release of convicted perpetrator, former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
“I realized that there’s an entire generation of people who had not heard of the case before,” said “Super Evil” host and Philippine Daily Inquirer reporter Pam Pastor, who scoured years’ worth of information to piece together a crime with multiple perpetrators tied to the government.
The podcast team also reached out to government officials, investigators, reporters and advocates to breathe life into the story and shed light into the unsolved facets of the murder case in ’93.
With this podcast, the creators hope that listeners will take it as an opportunity to “reflect on the society in which these crimes take place.”
As podcasts like this question the current state of our nation, we can take them also as springboards to reflect on our own actions: mainly, “why do we keep electing this type of leader? What can we do to make this country a better place?” asks Pastor.
