Social media users and artists trend #MarcosARTrocities on Ferdinand Marcos’ 100th birthday

Happy 100th birthday to late former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos!

…Not.

Social media users have been planning to trend the #Marcos100 and #MarcosARTrocities hashtags on Marcos’ birthday since late August, filling posts with original art against the horrors that the Philippines went through under the former president’s dictatorship. Twitter user Thysz Adartse (@thysz) called onto the #artPH community to spam an online poster making contest for its 100th year.

Today, on the late dictator’s September 11 birth date, the hashtag is running ablaze with art encapsulating Marcos’ bloody regime. Molotov Pilipinas made it official by making a Facebook event, complete with a satirical poster that mirrored the original:

Two days prior, Molotov Pilipinas also held a “birthday party” at Tomato Kick Morato, complete with party hats, music, and a birthday cake. There were also art exhibits and booths for zines, stickers, and shirts.
