If you catch yourself rewatching “Spirited Away” for the nth time (hey, we get it), you may want to ditch the couch and fly straight to this event instead (dragons optional). Chances are, you could meet one of Studio Ghibli’s directors and animators, Kitaro Kosaka.
Happening this Nov. 8 at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura, the 13th Animahenasyon: The Philippine Animation Festival will hold a screening for Kitaro Kosaka’s film, “Okko’s Inn.” The animated feature will be screened at 3:30 p.m., then followed by a talk with the director himself.
Kitaro Kosaka is best known for his work as an animation director and key animator in films like “Spirited Away,” “Grave of the Fireflies,” and “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.” His directorial feature “Okko’s Inn” bagged the Special Distinction Prize and Audiences Prize at South Korea’s Bucheon International Animation Festival. As for the coveted Oscar nod, that’s still up in the air. The film has been submitted for consideration, and we’re already crossing our fingers.
