Remember the guy who freaked TF out when V of BTS revealed in an interview (circa 2019) that he’s inspired by said guy’s music? Yeah, that’s actually American singer-songwriter—and Gen Z poster child—Conan Gray and he’s about to enter his K-pop era this August.
I was peacefully scrolling through my Twitter timeline when I came across a tweet that says: “Conan Gray is attending ‘The Show’ next week!” (For those unfamiliar, “The Show” is a Korean music program where K-pop acts perform their latest hits.)
Not gonna lie, I first thought it was a hoax and paid it no mind. K-pop stans like to joke about Western artists promoting their songs in Korean music shows, after all, and I wasn’t gonna fall for their buffoonery again. So imagine my surprise when I found a clip of “The Show’s” host announcing Gray as one of the performers on Aug. 9.
There wasn’t any mention of what song he’ll promote, but I’m guessing one (or two) of his songs from his second studio album “Superache.” “Disaster,” perhaps?
Before his “The Show” appearance, Gray will headline the two-day Korean music festival Haus of Wonder alongside British pop trio New Hope Club. It’s happening from Aug. 6 to 7 with other performances from Zico, Giriboy, Zion.T, Treasure, and many more.
The young singer is also expected to make a guesting on “SBS Youngstreet”—a radio program hosted by Red Velvet’s Wendy—on Aug. 8. (Fingers crossed for a live duet performance.)
Is this a step closer to the long overdue V x Conan Gray collab? “I am ready to work [with V] at any time,” said Gray in an interview with Korean media last July. Now, we badly need them in a studio together and produce the saddest misanthropic anthem of the year.
