Still can’t get over Taylor Swift’s MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech and the revelation of her brand new album “Midnights”? Count us in. Aside from this big announcement, it seems that another surprise won’t come in small packages: Another collaboration hypothesis is about to happen.
In case it hasn’t reached your TLs, a tweet by Dirty Hit founder Jamie Oborne shook Swifties and The 1975 fans on Aug. 31. “October soon come,” it says, accompanied with a snapshot of Taylor representing us in 2014: she’s wearing a tank top with the band’s name. Just so you know, Jamie’s British independent record label houses well-known acts such as Beabadoobee, recent Brit Award winner Wolf Alice, and of course The 1975.

This year, The 1975 is also serving us a new album, “Being Funny in a Foreign Language,” which was recorded with help from Taylor Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. In an interview with Pitchfork, frontman Matty Healy said that Taylor had a chance to take an early listen to “Being Funny”—and her reaction wasn’t as ironic as the record’s title suggests. “It’s so funny,” Taylor said.
Piecing together these events and considering the fact that Taylor did announce that “Midnights” is dropping on Oct. 21, we’re currently getting our hopes up that this hypothesized collaboration might just be in her new record. The official release date + “October coming soon” tweet = A big hint that the collaboration might be in the upcoming LP. Right? (Call us conspiracy theorists, but we can’t help it when Taylor is the ultimate puzzle master.)
We can only count on theories for now, but fans (like us) are in for a potential pop-rock-indie hit.
